Justine Larbalestier's book Liar is the antithesis of the current YA/urban fantasy/paranormal romance werewolf novels.

I can't go into it very much because the pathological liar narrator creates so many WTF moments, and you as a reader have to pay so much attention, that to start explaining it is guaranteed to start spoiling it. Hell, I've thrown a bit of a spoiler in with my intro sentence here.

I kinda get the impression it won't do as well with younger readers because it does require you to weigh and think and pay attention and make your own decisions regarding the ending . . . but fuck them anyway, I thought it was kinda neat.

Also: Angry owl will eat your face if you say "Orly?" one more time.

<3 I've had about 45 minutes to read it (lunch break) and I'm at page 60. WUV. But I have no clue what's true and what's not. XD I'm picking up things here and there, thinking "Well, if other characters said it..." but then realized if SHE'S narrating, then what the other characters say is a moot point.

In that respect it can be really fucking frustrating, yeah. :D Your best bet's gonna just be to pay attention and start picking out the tells.

I want an owl. :D Knowing that he'd eat my hands/arms/face is just a little deterrent.

(Did you get to part 2 of the book yet? I think that's what made me so certain this is the antithesis of werewolf novels. (I mean, srsly--a farm in upstate NY for the non-human-looking critters to run about, a farm that Micah's parents want to send her to if she can't keep under control? I already own that graphic novel thx.)

That's why I'm wondering if more than half of this novel is just in her mind! XD The last last part especially 'cause I'm like "...WTF, Go Yayeko?"

Just reading the summary definitely shows it looks like a different YA novel than most. I'm already writing it down on my list of Books to Read before I Kick the Bucket. :)
