Being busy . . .
Clock parts shipments are starting to arrive, so tiny tiny (very tiny) gears are starting to end up . . . well, underfoot. And in jewelry.

The screwdriver set I need to properly take apart some of these watches is on the final leg of its journey to my house, a good chunk of my craft stuff is boxed in preparation for the massive house shift ([info]zen_of_nihilism's gaming stuff & the tv to the old bedroom, the bedroom to the old bunny room, my craft stuff to the old TV area as a semi-office/workspace), and I have too much stuff I need to make.

Also . . .

If something is created with the ability to reason and choose, and that ability is stripped from them, may it still be considered alive? Is stunting free will stunting the development of life itself?

(I'm scared. You should be, too.)

Yeah--instead of walking into the dennish/computer area with the rabbits & kitchen to the right & bedroom to the left, it's bedroom & kitchen to the right, office space in the middle, & dennish stuff to the left. Or it will be. Theoretically. :P

Hmmm. I'd argue that if you didn't have the ability to think bad things, or feel negative emotions, that would indeed constitute a loss of potential existence. We grow by choosing what we consider acceptable or unacceptable, so if a creature was required to "love everything" regardless of its deserving then that would stunt the development of its individual consciousness.

However, re the CLOCKWORK ORANGE scenario... If EVERYONE on the planet had behaviour modification like Alex, so that we could think evil things but could not longer hurt other people by word or deed, we'd have an amazing planet. (Of course, this only works if EVERYONE has that modification. NO exceptions. Otherwise you get the result in the book/film: someone who becomes the target of persecution when it becomes clear that he can't defend himself.)

I'm assuming your scenario is that of a single entity deprived of its free will, rather than everyone in the whole world?

It started with a set of beings created with the parameters that they could only be happy, helpful, and innocent, and turned into an allegory for entrapment in gender roles & social guidelines as well as religion. Like I said, be scared. :P

As long as I can keep motivated (and keep from overthinking the thing), I'll be good.

As long as I keep from over-thinking things I seem to be okay . . . Of course, it helps that I'm in this weird frame of mind that I'm writing it down as it goes because I'm curious to see what's happening, learn the characters' stories, so on.

*thinks* ... I think yes, it would stunt development. Because if you can't choose on what to do, then you're being held back.

Did ya make that up or somethin'? *likes it*

Yeah, it's a theme/main question from the WIP. Which is still made of WTF. :D
