A new study says at least one in four teenage American girls has a sexually transmitted disease. How 'bout those abstinence-only education plans, dear moral decision-makers.

Seriously, this is absolutely insane. America's education system is putting millions of girls at risk for all sorts of preventable things just because we're all still so fucking terrified of sex and sexuality. As far as this country's majority is concerned, sex is (insert negative connotation-loaded words here), damn it, and young people shouldn't be doing it.

But of course our wonderful society will then hammer along on how being "sexy" is the ultimate of ultimates, leading to eye-searing bits of WTFery like hip-high children with "juicy" written across the ass of their pants because so many girls think they have to be sexualized or otherwise get boys' attention to be complete human beings--and a society full of consumer parents who think the ceaseless objectification of their daughters is all right but who flip their shit over protecting little Suzy Skankho from "objectionable content" on the internet.

You want teen girls to not have sex? You're shit out of luck. Teens will have sex. Nothing short of ungodly drastic & inhumane measures will stop them. But if you want girls to respect themselves enough to not buy into the anti-intellectual glorification and objectification of so many of the women in our media, or to have the sense & knowledge & forethought to protect themselves so they don't catch Dog knows what from Cat knows who, then a whole lot of somethings are going to have to change.

The starting point's what's got me stumped.

~~

In further sploogey news, Livejournal is celebrating SUP's 100th day of ownership with a massive shitstorm. They've tried to be sneaky about making all new accounts either be paid or plus (read: full of ads, some of which are for the OMGPR0N Lj has been so determined to keep from the ubiquitous internet-traipsing children), removing the ad-free and free Basic option "for the ease of the users"--and wow, have they failed. Cue wanksplosion. Brad Fitzpatrick is even PO'd. The cat macros haven't come out in force yet, but some moron new blood VP is trying to walk a high-handed two-faced and nonsensical sort of point, and is getting lit up for his efforts.

It's sorta kinda funny but not how depicting oneself as a sexual icon has become just as label-worthy as staying home with the kids and cooking and cleaning and ironing.

Times change! Morals get feng shui'd!

I'll be the first to say that I usually don't understand morals. Cause and effect, sure, I'm good with that. Throw in some touchy-feely talk of sin and what an invisible guy in the sky wants and you'll lose me.

By all means, have fun with sex & sexuality. It's a part of what we are as human beings. Demonizing it just leads to problems like (but not limited to) massive sexual dysfunction. But there's so much more to life, you know? And the "so much more" includes being able to look at the guy who's trying to talk you into doing him and say, "How will being with you advance my development as a person? What can you do for me that I can't do for myself?" Cuz seriously, vibrators are cheap. Therapy and treatments for diseases, not so much.

What I find sad is that I am not surprised by the number. DDX

And yet despite the apparently huge number of teenage girls who are having sex, I know a lot who aren't. Yay for the lack of STDs! :)

Eh, abstinence worked for me back in high school. The secret? Being a giant misanthrope. Without that quality, abstinence only education plans will fail. So, we need to make either so self-involved that other people don't register, except as occasional annoyances when they're being loud, like me, or alternately full of hatred and fear for other teens (the other kind of misanthrope).

So your rule over the rest of humanity would culminate in the demise of humanity itself,

. . .

This may not necessarily be a bad thing.

Obviously. I mean humans use up valuable resources that the bioengineered monsters would need.

Fuel-efficient bioengineered monsters, perhaps?

Of course. If by fuel efficient you mean they run on biofuel and if by biofuel you mean the flesh of living things.
But it'd still be fairly efficient and we could have bioengineered monsters replace the majority of humanity pretty quickly, allowing for a better world. For one thing, some of the nonsentient ones would be engineered to break down and digest hazardous materials, as well as flesh.

I kid, though, I kid. Humans would be phased out gradually and still exist for all of my rule. The number of them seriously needs to be reduced though. Most of the things we do that are bad for the environment are only so bad because so many of us do them. Hundreds of millions of cars are different from thousands of cars, for example.

Too bad so many are against that mandatory birth control thing.

Ah, but they wouldn't be using it. I'd be slipping birth control substances into the water and making people take a test to receive the antidote.
If you need a test to drive, you need a test to parent.
Although, yes, I'd need a brutally powerful army, much as I'd hate to have to harm my own subjects. Maybe something intimidating like, oh, bioengineered monsters.
My new motto-there are few problems so severe they cannot be fixed with bioengineered monsters.

Note to self: Build a really really big wall between your side of the country & my own. Or start researching monster-be-gone.

Pfft. No worries. I believe in really big walls. I also believe in designing safety mechanisms into my bio-engineered monsters. You know, like making sure they're well fed and well treated, have genetic imprinting mechanisms and see me first when they hatch, and are told what's acceptable behavior and what is not.
