So tired of Gj cockery. We have icons, we don't have icons, the site works, the site doesn't work, updating's on, updating's off, creation's on, creation's off, creation's only theoretically on, the site hasn't worked right for a year and [info]system's not gonna/doesn't know how to do shit about it, donations are going missing . . .

Now I wish I'd just gone to Ij to begin with. Bah.

But anyway. The shinies are coming along though the customers at work are still batshit insane. And I'm not just talking about the guy who went off on this rant about how Obama is terrible and "scary as hell, because when he was sworn into the Senate if you look at the video you can see that his hand's on the Koran, and if you know anything about politics and religion you know that's terrifying!" (For the record, he didn't--an email forward was going around spreading some heavy-duty misinformation and outright lies. Obama is not a Muslim, radical or otherwise, and did not swear into anything on the Koran.)

No, that guy was just one facet of the fearful and misinformed masses. The crown jewel of crazy for today was a lady who'd recently seen the movie Dr. Zhivago and who wanted a book of poems she'd heard about in it.

I've never seen the movie or read the book, so I went to the computer for her. It was a book of poems, she told me, something like Lara's Poems or Poems for Lara, and the doctor wrote it for his wife, and--

Yeah. She wanted a book of poems written by a fictional character.

I explained to her that the book (much like the character who "wrote" it) didn't exist. I found her the original work and pointed out some of the poems in there.

She didn't want it. She just wanted the book of poems.

This was the point that I handed her the book and walked away.

But on the brighter side, the paste jewel of IRL trollery goes to the woman who came up and tried to convince me that she was looking for the (canceled) Lynn Spears parenting book. She had me convinced that she was just another nut until she kicked in with "And I have a teenage daughter but she's not pregnant yet, and my older daughter's not divorced yet, and I just wanna know if I'm doing all right!"

I need more people to come in like that and make fun of the publishers and authors and other customers with me. :)
